Envision Preparatory Charter School values all achievements that are rooted in effort, strong character, and commitment to excellence for public school students. Our school model is focused on 4 key design elements that allow us to serve the families and students of Sunset Park:
1. We believe that all types of learners can achieve at high levels
Envision Prep is committed to meeting the needs of a diverse body of learners through an inclusive school model. We believe that learning is the result of effort, strong character, and a commitment to excellence. Academic excellence is not the result of innate ability; as such, all other elements of our program are designed to service students from a myriad of backgrounds, including those that have disabilities, complex needs, and/or are English Language Learners.
2. We hold rigorous academic expectations for all students
At Envision Prep we hold high academic expectations and fully embrace rigorous learning standards that foster critical thinking skills and interpersonal communication skills. Our curriculum is responsive to the needs of students and include a social skills component. Our core academic program relies on:
An Inclusive School Model and Environment
Instruction is Driven by Data and Assessment
A Flexible but Rigorous Curriculum in All Content Areas
Inclusion means that all students and families are seen as a unique part of Envision Prep’s School community. We commit to a diverse population, and supporting all types of learners. Our classrooms and school is an inclusive environment, where everyone, regardless of disability, ethnicity, language, class, or any other reason, is welcomed. We strive to meet the needs of kids on an individual level, and include all students in our general education classrooms.
At Envision Prep dynamic teaching is led by data-driven instruction. We have school-wide data systems and we commit to collaborative instructional practices to make use of the data we collect. We will effectively use data as a tool to adjust individual learning plans by holding rigorous expectations and clear assessment norms. We use Interim Assessments to align across teachers, classrooms, and content areas. Teachers also use Unit Quizzes and Tests as benchmarks and students get constant feedback on their work. We believe that we can all learn from our mistakes and commit to learning this way as a community.
We commit to a Rigorous Curriculum for all students
Envision Prep is committed to clear, planned, and aligned curriculum that will challenge students to think critically in each content area. We commit to providing instruction that is uniquely tailored to the needs of each student, and do this by providing our educators with the flexibility to challenge, differentiate, and support scholars at their individual developmental levels to meet and exceed the school’s performance standards. In each content area, Envision Prep considers the place for co-teaching models, inquiry-based learning and instruction, Socratic seminar, project-based learning, direct instruction models, integrated instruction through cross-curricular design and teamwork.
3. We support our families and community in and outside of the school day
Parent engagement and involvement at both the home and school level has a measurable impact on student’s ability to achieve in school. Envision Prep will include wrap-around support that embraces the family and community; we will work toward opening a PK option for families, partner with the CSE and include early intervention services, and commit to parent workshops, and a robust family component throughout a child’s education at Envision Prep.
4. We value educators as agents-of-change for our kids
Research has proven that teachers have the single greatest influence over student achievement; so we value what teachers do and support their growth as professionals. We have multiple pathways to education as a long-term career, with teachers as leaders, as certified practitioners, and a robust teacher residency program. We believe that great teaching requires continual practice, reflection, and training. Envision Prep values and requires all educators to learn, practice, reflect, and grow. Our teachers engage in professional learning communities, are active participants in the leadership of the school, and are part of a community that values educators.
